PLA Nonwoven Machine
PLA is used in the meltblown process it opens a niche for nonwoven materials. With fiber diameters that are lower than other processes, and an ability to combine with other materials such as laminated composites, it provides an accessible platform for innovation. Crystallization kinetics are different for PLA nonwovens when compared to petroleum-based polymers due to the processing parameters of higher pressure and extrusion temperatures within controlled process windows.
PLA’s characteristics can be further modified with co-polymers, masterbatch additives and/or plasticizers, lubricants, and other processing aids. Advantages include smooth surface texture and a circular cross-section of fibers, providing a high surface area with moderate tensile strength for soft and robust characteristics. Other co-polymers can impart supplementary characteristics, such as polycaprolactone, a degradable polymer often used in medical implants, which improves flexibility to counteract the sometimes brittle nature of the PLA.
Process Difference Between PLA And PP In Non Woven Fabric Machines
1.Process flow when using PP raw materials in nonwoven fabric machine
Conveying → metering and mixing → melt extrusion → filtration → metering → spinneret extrusion → cooling → drafting → web forming → fiber web consolidation → winding and slitting → non-woven fabric products.
2.Process flow when using PLA raw materials in nonwoven fabric machine
Conveying → drying → metering and mixing → melt extrusion → filtration → metering → spinneret extrusion → cooling → drafting → web forming → fiber web consolidation → (setting) → winding and slitting → non-woven fabric products.
From the above process flow, it can be seen that the production process of PLA nonwoven fabric is the same as that of PP raw materials, except that a drying process of raw materials is added, and some production lines may also add a thermal “setting” process
